Boully & Sarjo Suso are from the older generation of Jaliya. Here they sing and play in the old style of Lamban a famous song in the repertoire which is solely in honour of griots themselves.
We were privileged to have Boully agree to play for us as he now has arthritis and had retired many years ago. Although he is now not able to play like he used to we were honoured to witness this small private performance in the family home. Many of his family had not seen him play for years and they were all deeply affected by it.
Boully Suso and Sarjo Suso are also the parents of the celebrated Gambian singer, Sambou Suso. In the interview that followed they spoke alot about how the griot tradition had changed over the years and between the generations.
