Pa Bobo Jobarteh was born in 1976 in Brikama, The Gambia. Listening to Pa Bobo brought back memories of his father, Malamini Jobarteh’s particular style of kora playing. Pa Bobo possesses an energetic and vibrant sound that captivated us throughout his performance. He brings a strident quality to the instrument that is reflective of the Gambian school of kora playing. When he plays it is as if the voice and kora are woven together into one unified sound. There is a rhythmic percussive element to his style that makes it distinctive and original.

Pa Bobo has travelled and worked internationally performing in festivals across Europe, America, Australia and the Far East. He first travelled at the tender age of ten to perform for festivals in UK including an appearance at Buckingham Palace. Pa Bobo has gone on to work with many artists and has collaborated with in concerts with father and elder brother Tata Dindin. He is now initiating an arts and cultural centre in Brikama to help maintain the tradition for the next generation and hopes this will secure the future of the jaliya tradition.
