Ansumana Suso was born in Sukuta, The Gambia in 1995 and is the son of the legendary Gambian balafon player, Mawdu Suso and the singer Jali Kumbia Suso. He has a prestigious talent and is a multi-instrumentalist performing regularly on kora, balafon, guitar and percussion. He has already worked with many of the leading artists of the Gambia including; Sambou Suso, Muhamed Saho and Sura Susso and this has shaped his flexible but highly individual style of playing. The influence of leading Malian players such as Toumani Diabaté, Madou Sidiki Diabaté and Ballake Cissokho can also be traced in his playing. He is truly a young player of his times and generation and it is for musicians such as Ansumana who hold the key to the tradition’s future that make creating the Living Legacies Archive so important.
