     Legacies

Sura Susso was born in 1986 in Bakoteh, Serrekunda, The Gambia. His playing awakens the spirit of players passed. He has an infectious energy, which draws people into the music and encourages them to delve deeper into their own cultural inheritance. Sura is a virtuosic player whose music and lyricism brings the integrity of the tradition to a younger generation.

Sura is an internationally celebrated kora player who divides his time between UK and The Gambia. He is the son of Jali Momodu Suso and Seneglese songstress Jali Fatou Bintu Cissokho. Sura is also a fine singer who often sings whilst playing the kora. He says that when he was growing up he was often shy to bring them together but this has now become part of his distinctive style. He is a player that is shaping the future of the tradition.
