Lamin Suso was born in 1979 in Bakau, The Gambia. He is the son of the great kora maker, Alieu Suso and has been building kora’s with his father from a very early age. We watched the whole process of making a kora through all the distinctive stages. With raw materials sourced from across West Africa and brought into his workshop space, we witnessed the creation, formation and birth of a kora.

In his interview we spoke about how the changing face of the griot tradition and how this had affected the kora maker, how things had shifted for the different generations and his personal memories of his father who was one of the finest Kora makers in West Africa.
