Exile & Return is an intimate and personal piece that that expresses a longing for home. It explores themes of exile, dislocation and the quest to find that place of belonging. It is a lyrical and transcendental work that bridges the world of kora and string quartet into a coherent musical form of its own. The music delves into soundscapes that are both post-modern and minimalistic drawing out the essence of both soundworlds.
Exile & Return was written especially for the Brodsky Quartet and commissioned by Cheltenham Music Festival. It was premiered by Tunde Jegede & the Brodsky Quartet at Cheltenham Music Festival in Pittville Pump Room on 11th July 2007. It has since been performed with them many times all around the world and was also recorded for BBC Radio 3.
